GANDEEVILLE, W. Va. – An oil drum has exploded near Gandeeville.

A Roane County 911 dispatcher said a 24-year-old male was cutting into an empty 155-gallon oil storage drum at a little after 2 p.m. Tuesday when the drum exploded.

The victim was flown by helicopter to Cabell Huntington Hospital.

According to the dispatcher, a 16-year-old male was also burned.

He was transported to Roane County General with non life-threatening injuries.

No other details were immediately available regarding the victims or their condition.

    They should have hooked a hose to an automobile exhaust and stuck it in the barrel. The CO2 from the exhaust keeps the fumes from exploding.

    Sounds like the drum still had some petroleum vapors in it.

    Well, hope all turns out ok but...one does have to be smarter than the drum or reality will loudly knock.

    One wonders in these cases whether it was a lack of training, stupidity or watching too many of those scripted Appalachian reality shows that depict wondrous devices created from bird nests and barber floor hair.
