APCO optimistic about power restoration efforts

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Appalachian Power still listed about 15,000 customers out of service in southern West Virginia Thursday afternoon.  However, officials said they were making strong progress and most should be restored by Thursday evening and the rest by Friday night.

“A lot of the outages we’re tackling at this point are smaller outages and it seems like things are slowing down,” said Appalachian Power Communications Director Jeri Matheney. “But we have lots of resources.”

The company brought in about 500 extra linemen from out of state to assist with debris removal and line repairs in the wake of Tuesday’s wind storm.

The heaviest concentration of outages by Thursday afternoon were in Cabell, Wayne, Mingo and Logan counties.
