Greenbrier field adds international majors champions

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — The Greenbrier Classic field will feature Nick Faldo, along with international standouts Angel Cabrera, Darren Clarke, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman and Vijay Singh in a collection that represents 15 major victories.

“We’re thrilled to welcome such accomplished professionals to The Classic,” said Jim Justice, owner of The Greenbrier resort. “The addition of these international champions to our field solidifies The Greenbrier Classic as one of the top stops on the PGA Tour.”

The famously outspoken Faldo, a World Golf Hall of Famer since 1998, owns three Masters wins, three British Opens and 39 PGA Tour victories. He serves as lead analyst for CBS Sports and the Golf Channel, and opened The Faldo Golf Center at the Greenbrier in 2013.

The Argentinian Cabrera won the the 2007 U.S. Open and 2009 Masters and boasts career PGA earnings of nearly $12 million.

Singh boasts 34 PGA victories and three majors: the 1998 and 2004 PGA Championships and the 2000 Masters. The native of Fiji and World Golf Hall of Fame member has career earnings topping $68 million and will be making his second start at The Greenbrier. He finished tied for 33rd in 2012.

Goosen returns for his second appearance after missing the cut in 2011. The South African has $28 million in career PGA earnings and seven victories to his credit, including the 2001 and 2004 U.S. Opens.

Another South African, Immelman won the 2008 Masters and will be making his fifth Greenbrier start. His best finish came in 2011 when he a tied for 14th. His earnings top $12 million.

Clarke, from Northern Ireland, won the 2011 British Open as part of $8 million in tour earnings. Clarke and Cabrera will be competing in for the first time at the Greenbrier.

The Greenbrier will take place from June 30-July 6.
