Threat of severe weather weakens

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Although much of West Virginia is under a flash flood watch through 11 p.m. it’s unlikely our weather will near the activity of the past two days. An upper level low pressure system has virtually opened up rain out of the Gulf of Mexico to dump on West Virginia, but the system is beginning to weaken.

“While we can’t rule out the total possibility, the coverage certainly should not be what we saw yesterday or the day prior,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Greg Guillot.

Guillot added the flash flood watch was precautionary as well.

“The flash flood watch is essentially due to the amounts of rain we had yesterday,” he said. “With grounds already saturated, if we have another inch or rain in a localized area we may see flooding.”

Guillot said the good news is the system will break up by Friday afternoon and the weekend looks tremendous with sunshine, lower humidity, and lower temperatures.
