Festivall takes over Charleston later this week

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston will become a work of art when the 10th Annual Festivall opens later this week. “We have a lot of main events. It’s a two weekend festival and in between is a lot of fun too,” said Larry Groce, executive director for Festivall.

Festivall runs from June 20 to June 29.

“We want to show off Charleston but we also want to show off a lot of different kinds of arts,” Groce said.

The schedule this Saturday includes the Smoke on the Water Chili Cookoff on Kanawha Boulevard and FestivALT with the Drive-By Trucks and Carolina Chocolate Drops at Appalachian Power Park. Taste-of-ALL will be held at the Charleston Civic Center on Sunday.

Coming up next week, Peter Marshall, the original host of “Hollywood Squares” and a West Virginia native, will host “West Virginia Squares” on Monday, June 23 and Tuesday, June 24 at the Clay Center. The game show will feature questions about West Virginia music and history.

On June 26, Aaron Neville is the headliner for the Mayor’s Concert at the Clay Center while Blues, Brews and BBQ will be held at the University of Charleston on June 27. The same site will be used for Wine & All That Jazz on June 28.

Also on June 28, Capitol Street will be closed to traffic for the Capitol Street Art Fair along with the Children’s Art Fair and Kanawha County Public Library Street Fair.

“The Capitol Street Art Fair is becoming one of West Virginia’s premiere art fairs. We’re going to have over 90 artisans from 23 counties and three different states,” Groce said.
