Fatal tree cutting accident in Putnam County

HURRICANE, W.Va. — A Putnam County man was killed Tuesday evening while cutting up a downed tree near his home.

Putnam County deputies identify the victim as Gabriel Collins, 38, of Hurricane.  He was sawing the blown down tree into smaller pieces when a large log from the tree rolled over him. He suffered fatal injuries in the accident.

He was discovered by his young daughter near their home on Buff Creek in Putnam County.
