Police name victim of fatal train accident in Buckhannon

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. — Officials have named the individual who died after being struck by a train Tuesday morning in Buckhannon.

The victim of the train accident has been identified as Rosalea Cutlip of Buckhannon.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined the engineers and conductors signaled multiple times to alert the victim and also placed the train into emergency braking to attempt to stop the train, but were unable to do so in time.

Investigators said the woman was 68 years old and no other extenuating circumstances appear to have played a factor.

Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m., the Buckhannon Police Department responded to a collision involving a train near Wood Street and found an A&O train had struck the victim.

Cutlip was declared dead upon the arrival of the emergency responders.
