No. 7 on list of Most Pivotal Players for WVU in 2014

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — We’re less than 40 days before the start of West Virginia’s preseason football camp as MetroNews reveals our picks for Top 10 Most Pivotal Players for 2014. We continue with a tall, fast receiver who’s looking for a senior year surge:

No. 7 KEVIN WHITE
Position: Outside receiver
Class: Senior
Measurables: 6-3, 209

His 35-catch output in 2013—far short of what West Virginia has come to expect from a featured receiver—was partially a by-product of the quarterback carousel. (White also missed the opener against William & Mary with a foot injury.)

Yet some inconsistency was of his own making, such as dropping a would-be touchdown against Georgia State and being benched for the rest of that game. Even his seven-catch performance at Oklahoma was tempered by a red-zone fumble with WVU threatening to take a second-half lead.

White’s size makes him a goal-line option on fade routes and his speed is good enough to burn secondaries on deep posts. Yet he was essentially marginalized against Maryland, Oklahoma State, TCU, Iowa State and GSU—compiling only six total catches for 66 yards in those five games.

His production becomes crucial for springing Mario Alford on the opposite side and affording Daikiel Shorts room to work in the slot.
