Mother, son killed in Logan County head-on crash

McCONNELL, W.Va. — Two Mercer County residents were killed in a head-on collision Friday morning on state Route 10 in Logan County.

Logan County sheriff’s deputies said Rita Overbee, 53, of Princeton, crossed the center line at about 7:43 in 3 Mile Curve in McConnell and slammed into an oncoming utility truck. Overbee and her son, Robert Overbee, 28, were killed. The truck driver suffered minor injuries.

The passenger car and utility truck collided in 3 Mile Curve Friday morning.

Investigators said witnesses told them it appeared Overbee was driving fast and lost control in the curve. She and her son were trapped in the wreckage. They were not wearing seat belts.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.
