Former Mountaineer arrested on DUI charge

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU Hall of Famer and former NFL defensive back Aaron Beasley was arrested early Friday and charged with DUI-second offense, driving on a license suspended for non-DUI, possession of a controlled substance, lane violation and no certificate of insurance.

According to the police report, Beasley became belligerent toward a Morgantown police officer after being stopped near the on-ramp to Interstate 68 on Earl L. Core Road. Police initiated the stop when they spotted his car veer left of center around 2:30 a.m. Beasley’s eyes were bloodshot, speech slurred and police detected the strong odor of alcohol coming from the car. They also spotted an open bottle of beer in the cup holder.

Beasley refused to take a preliminary breath test and was arrested for DUI. Beasley was arraigned with his bond set at $6,000.

Beasley was previously convicted of DUI in February 2005 in Georgia.

Beasley was a standout in WVU’s secondary from 1992-95 and was named a consensus All-American in 1995. He was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1996 and played nine seasons in the NFL with the Jaguars, New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons.
