One killed in weekend I-64 accident

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — One person is dead and another critically injured following what is being called a “freak accident” that closed part of Interstate 64 in Huntington on Saturday night.

Huntington Police said the two victims were getting onto the highway near West 17th Street on a motorcycle when a large steel beam came off a tractor trailer that was traveling the highway and fell onto them.  It happened around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

The woman killed was identified as Catherine Masters Dray, 42, a librarian at Huntington East Middle School.  Her husband, Michael Dray, was said to be in critical condition at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Initially, the driver of the truck was cited for having an unsecured load.
