Forecast: Good golf weather later this week at The Greenbrier Resort

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — For the first time in several years, the weather may not be a factor when competition begins Thursday for The Greenbrier Classic, a PGA Tour event, at The Greenbrier Resort.

Stewart Williams, a meteorologist for the PGA Tour, was predicting showers and thunderstorms for Wednesday in Greenbrier County, but said better golf weather was expected to follow the storm system.

“It’ll be much drier and cooler for Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” Williams said. “Lows in the 50s, highs in the upper 70s. What more do you want?”

Any storms Wednesday, though, could impact the planned pro-am events. Here is the schedule for The Greenbrier Classic for the remainder of the week:

Williams, who will be monitoring the skies throughout the event, was a guest on Tuesday’s MetroNews “Talkline.” “It’s still Mother Nature and it’s still an inexact science but, as far technology goes and these computer models, they get better and better so it makes our job a little easier,” he said.

MetroNews “Talkline” with Hoppy Kercheval is broadcasting from Slammin’ Sammy’s at The Greenbrier Resort this week for the 2014 Greenbrier Classic.
