Body may be missing Hancock County teen

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. — Weeks of searching for a missing Hancock County teenager may have come to an end.

Anthony “Tony” Pittman, 16, was reported missing on May 29.

Deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday they believe a body found this week may be that of 16-year-old Anthony “Tony” Pittman.

Investigators were awaiting the results of an autopsy to confirm that preliminary identification.  Pittman’s family members had been notified.

The body was found in a small ravine, located in a wooded area, about 300 yards from Pittman’s family’s property in New Cumberland.  Members of a Tyler County canine search and rescue team joined deputies, local firefighters and other Hancock County officials for the search earlier this week.

The Oak Glen High School student was reported missing on May 29. Since then, the search for him has stretched to North Carolina as deputies followed up on possible sightings or other tips about Pittman’s possible location.

The search returned to Pittman’s home Monday after all of the available leads were exhausted.
