Trial of Bridgeport mayor delayed due to schedule conflicts

BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. — The trial in the case of federal drug charges against Bridgeport Mayor Mario Blount will be postponed.

The original August 4 date set for Blount and co-defendants Angela and April Davis will be pushed back after U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley granted a joint motion for continuance on Thursday.

The motion was presented to Judge Keeley on July 10 by the three attorneys representing the three defendants separately and it states all defense representatives and Assistant U.S. Attorney John Parr held a conference call on July 2 to discuss discovery issues and scheduling conflicts.

In this meeting, it was determined there were multiple reasons to postpone. Both Angela Davis and April Davis are currently being hospitalized and the duration of that hospitalization is unknown; counsel for April Davis had a previously scheduled Aug. 4 felony trial in Monongalia County; there is additional discovery, voluminous in nature, forthcoming.

During the meeting counsel determined dates which would potentially have no conflict and are available. They are September 8-12, September 15-17 or September 29-October 3.

A status conference will be held on July 14 by Judge Keeley to discuss when the new trial date will be.
