“It’s a privilege and honor to have the trust and vote of Republican leaders from around this great state,” Lucas said in a statement. “We have built a team and operation who will build upon our successes in 2012, giving West Virginia Republicans an unprecedented night this November.”

Lucas — who has degrees from Vanderbilt, Harvard and Tulane — was first elected state GOP chairman in 2012. At that time, he was the youngest state chairman of any political party in the nation.

He was born in Huntington and raised in Lincoln County and Morgan County.

An attorney, his political career started when he served as an aide to Republican Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV-2) who is now the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate.
