Prosecutor: woman’s false report leads to violence

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Raleigh County Prosecutor Kristen Keller says sometimes a role of a prosecutor is not only to prove someone is guilty but also to prove their innocence.

Kimberly Adkins

The prosecutor is responding to charges filed back on Friday against Kimberly Dawn Adkins who police believe made false allegations against longtime Beckley OB/GYN Dr. Michael Webb causing Webb to be attacked by Adkins’ boyfriend.

“We get false allegations of crime (all the time), but no one gets physically hurt,” Prosecutor Keller told MetroNews Monday. “But when someone gets physically hurt as a result, someone gets beaten as a result, that takes it to another level.”

Adkins is charged with being an accessory before the fact of malicious assault, felony conspiracy and providing false information to police. She claimed Dr. Webb sexually assaulted her. It’s alleged she told her boyfriend Alvin Williams who then attacked Webb. The doctor suffered facial fractures and was hospitalized.

“We know that this was a completely false allegation against a doctor that’s been in practice for probably almost 40 years,” Keller said.

Investigators haven’t released the possible motivation for Adkins’ alleged actions but the prosecutor said that would eventually come out.

“I’m not allowed to talk about that now but I believe it will play out,” she said.

Adkins and Williams are both being held in the Southern Regional Jail on $100,000 bail.
