Toddler killed in Tyler County fire

ALMA, W.Va. — A Monday morning fire in Tyler County killed a young boy and injured three others.

The Tyler County Sheriff’s Department said the blaze broke out at just before 1 a.m. on Big Run Road near the community of Alma. The victims were staying in a 28-foot-long camping trailer.

The initial 911 call said there was a child trapped inside the camper. First responders later found out a man, woman and second child drove to Pine Grove to seek help.

Investigators with the state Fire Marshal’s Office said a toddler was killed, while two adults and an infant suffered serious burn injuries. They were taken to West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating. Volunteer fire crews from Middlebourne and Shirley were on the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims.
