Damages awarded after football team fight

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A Wood County jury found in favor of a former Parkersburg South High School freshmen football team member Friday who claimed negligence following a 2010 fight.

The panel awarded Adam Cross and his mother $106,000 in damages. The civil lawsuit alleged the freshmen football coach did nothing to stop the fight between Cross and a teammate.

The jury found the coach; the Wood County Board of Education and three school administrators were negligent.

Cross’ attorney told Parkersburg reporters after Friday’s verdict the case could have been settled years ago. He said the jury dealt with the issue quickly like the school board should have.
