Morrisey announces refunds for Dirty Girls

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The company that sold tickets to the canceled Dirty Girl Mud Run in Charleston has agreed to provide refunds to the participants according to West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey.

Morrisey finalized an agreement with the Eventbrite, a self-service ticketing company, Friday. He said Eventbrite will email those who signed up for the race through its website.

“Eventbrite was a third-party contractor serving the organizers of the race and had nothing to do with the decision to cancel the race,” Morrisey said in a news release. “Notwithstanding, the company desires to provide full refunds to those participants that paid registration fees through the Eventbrite.com website.”

Morrisey said the owner of the Dirty Girl brand, 100 LLC, contracted with Eventbrite to provide tickets to who paid between $65 and $95 to take part in the run.

“Upon learning of 100 LLC’s statement that it would not refund the paid registration fees, Eventbrite found the outcome unsatisfactory for the Eventbrite registrants. Based upon the unusual circumstances of the cancellation, Eventbrite has decided to provide refunds in the amount of the registration fees to the Eventbrite registrants.”

“Eventbrite wants to work cooperatively with us to facilitate the refunds and ensure all appropriate participants are fully refunded their race registration fees,” Morrisey said.

The Attorney General’s Office received more than 250 complaints after 100 LLC announced there would be no refunds. There were nearly 2,700 people who signed up for the mud run.

The race was scheduled to be Saturday at Cato Park in Charleston but an ongoing financial dispute between 100 LLC and the company that puts on the runs, Human Movement, caught the Charleston event in the middle. The race was canceled when Human Movement failed to provide funds for a shuttle bus to and from the event.
