Martinsburg’s Lindsay lands offer, quickly commits to WVU

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Martinsburg High rising senior Deamonte Lindsay committed to West Virginia this weekend after being extended an offer from Mountaineers coaches durig a camp in Morgantown.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Lindsay finished the 2013 campaign with 1,200 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns, helping lead the Bulldogs to their fourth straight Class AAA state championship. Lindsay currently holds one other FBS offer from Toledo.

Lindsay’s stock continued to rise through his junior season as he helped lead Martinsburg to its fourth straight Class AAA title.

“The sky is the limit for him,” Martinsburg coach Dave Walker said this summer. “He has a great frame, he’s fast, very smart and has kind of flown under the radar because of some of the other kids we have had. He has a lot of potential and I think he will get a lot of attention this year.”

Lindsay is expected to have a role defensively for West Virginia as either a defensive back or at linebacker.

“Lindsay is a versatile athlete who can play multiple positions along both sides of the ball,” said Rivals writer Keenan Cummings, who reported the commitment for WVSports.com. “Most of his high school film shows the Martinsburg standout on offense, but the Mountaineers staff is eying him to make the full-time move to the defensive side of the ball. His size and speed would fit perfectly at Spur.”
