Repair work completed at the East River Mountain Tunnel on I-77

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — The Virginia Department of Highways was able to complete repair work in just one night on the East River Mountain Tunnel on Interstate 77 near Bluefield.

VDOT and the West Virginia DOH originally announced the overnight repairs would take Tuesday night and Wednesday night but the work from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday did the job.

The northbound tunnel was damaged in a truck fire last Friday.
