Trial date scheduled in Kanawha child neglect case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A September trial date has been set for a Cross Lanes man who was allegedly asleep when his young son accidentally shot his young daughter.

John Seymour, 23, was arraigned by Kanawha County Circuit Judge Jim Stucky on felony child neglect charges Thursday.

Police said Seymour and the kids’ mother Tabby Bowen, 24, were asleep back in April when their 5-year-old son shot their 4-year-old daughter in the arm. She was treated at a Charleston hospital.

Seymour was indicted last week by a county grand jury. He pleaded not guilty Thursday and Judge Stucky scheduled his trial for Sept. 22.

Bowen was also charged but has not been indicted.
