Trial date set in ‘gang hit’ murder

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two men who allegedly killed a Charleston teenager earlier this year are scheduled to go on trial in September.

D.J. Carter, 18, of South Charleston, and Mark Gaddy, 23, of Detroit, were indicted last week on murder charges in the death of Tymel McKinney. The 18-year-old was shot and killed on the front porch of his West Side home in April.

Police have said the death of McKinney as a gang hit.

Carter and Gaddy pleaded not guilty Thursday and the case was scheduled for a Sept. 8 trial.
