MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Dana Holgorsen mixed compliments with criticism on newly arrived linebacker Edward Muldrow, enlightened us on noted special-teamer William Crest, and even poked retroactive fun at the scattered snaps of last year’s center Pat Eger.
All in all, a fairly informative and entertaining lunchtime news conference.
Thursday begins the second week of preseason camp, and after three full-contact practices some players have entered the achy phase.
“We’re trying to identify guys that can maintain mental toughness when they’re tired, mental toughness when they’re sore, when they’re hurting, when it’s hot,” Holgorsen said. “It’s an evaluation process.”
While the injury list is growing, it’s not necessarily the serious kind, but rather those nicks, bruises and headaches that can distract players from assignments. Especially amid the warm afternoon practices, Holgorsen said coaches are seeking players “who can rev the engines up” and stay true to technique and scheme.
