C-130 makes emergency landing at Charleston’s Yeager Airport

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A U.S. Air Force Reserve C-130 cargo plane made an emergency landing at Charleston’s Yeager Airport on Friday evening because of smoke in the cargo area.

The shuttle flight was reportedly en route from Pope Field in Fayetteville, N.C. to a destination in Milwaukee, Wis. when it diverted to CRW shortly after 5 p.m.

State officials said the aircraft was not from the West Virginia Air National Guard, but state Guard members were assisting the passengers on board — said to be a mixture of more than 40 military and retired civilian personnel.

One person was treated at a Charleston hospital for nausea because of the smoke.
