Sketch of Charleston rape suspect released

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston police were working with a sketch of a suspect as the search continued for the man who allegedly raped a woman near Appalachian Power Park on Tuesday night.

The sketch was released to the public on Friday.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s, standing about 5-foot-10 with long, stringy gray hair, an unshaven face and tattoos on both arms.

The victim told Charleston police she was walking to Appalachian Power Park to meet her husband after work when the suspect approached her and asked for change. She said she told the man she had no money and kept walking but he followed her.

According to investigators, the man grabbed her by the hair when tried to take off running, pulled her behind a brick building into a grassy area and sexually assaulted her.

She was treated and released from Charleston Area Medical Center’s Women and Children’s Hospital.

Anyone with information about the suspect can contact Charleston police at 304-348-6480 or a local law enforcement agency.
