West Virginia finalizes its men’s basketball schedule

WVU coach Bob Huggins questions a call during last season’s 74-69 win at TCU.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Now that the Big 12 finalized its lineup of conference games, West Virginia has released its complete men’s basketball schedule for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

Three elements of note:

— For the second consecutive year, the Mountaineers open Big 12 action before spring semester starts with a road swing through TCU and Texas Tech. This was done at the request of coach Bob Huggins, who can take out to Fort Worth and Lubbock over four days without impacting classes. (The Big 12 also helped relieve travel difficulties by limiting West Virginia to only three road games on weeknights.)

The Mountaineers, uniquely positioned geographically as the only conference school in the Eastern time zone, were frequently returning to Morgantown at 4 a.m. or later during the 2012-13 season, before the league reconsidered its scheduling concessions.

— West Virginia faces Kansas and Oklahoma State twice in the final six regular-season games.

— The Mountaineers basketball team will go head-to-head with the West Virginia-Kansas State football game on Thursday, Nov. 20. The football game kicks off at 7 p.m. and the basketball game in Puerto Rico tips at 7:30 p.m.
