MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Five people were killed in three separate traffic accidents Sunday across West Virginia.
The first wreck occurred at just after 1 a.m. Sunday on Fairmont Road near Morgantown when two vehicles collided near Sugar Creek Road. Two people died at the scene.
The fatal victims have been identified as Jobe Haney, 18, and Travis Penrose, 18, both of Morgantown. They were in the same vehicle. A passenger in the vehicle with Haney and Penrose and two people in the approaching vehicle were injured and taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital
A single-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Wood County also claimed two victims—identified as Don Wesley Barnhart, 38, and Henry Clemente Lori, Jr.
Investigators said speed may have been a contributing factor. The driver lost control on Route 14. The car went off the road and through a utility road. The driver was ejected.
In Putnam County, deputies said a woman lost control of her car and slammed into a tree on Hurricane Creek Road at about 5 p.m. Deputies said Delphine Geter, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene.
