Juco prospect Myers expected to enroll at West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Junior college signee Jaylon Myers was expected to enroll at West Virginia as early as Monday afternoon, according to a source close to the program.

Defensive back signee Jaylon Myers was expected to enroll at West Virginia as early as Monday.

The Rivals three-star cornerback out of Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College was one of four members of the Mountaineers’ 2014 recruiting class yet to report. Myers’ situation became more viable after making up ground in summer school, and he was anticipated to join the team as soon he enrolled in classes.

“They’re just waiting on a document,” the source said.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Myers was rated the nation’s No. 8 junior college cornerback prospect after making seven interceptions in seven games at Hutchinson. He also could contribute at safety as West Virginia deploys nickle and dime packages to cope with the Big 12’s spate of spread offenses.

The arrival of Myers comes just as the Mountaineers cope with the possibility of losing senior Icky Banks to an academic eligibility issue.

Cornerback is the most easily adaptable defensive position, raising the odds of Myers contributing early in the season despite missing all of camp. Though Myers is viewed as an immediate contributor, he does have three years of eligibility to play two at West Virginia, giving coaches the option of a redshirt season.
