Morgantown stabbing death scheduled for court hearing

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A preliminary hearing is scheduled Monday afternoon in a Morgantown murder case.

Cumberland, Md., resident Robert Hernandez, 33, allegedly stabbed WVU freshman Devante’ Waites at a Morgantown bar Aug. 14. Waites, of Fairmont, died a few hours later at a Morgantown hospital.

Police arrested Hernandez at a traffic stop less than 24 hours after the stabbing. He’s been in jail without bail charged with murder.

A magistrate will decide Monday afternoon if there’s enough evidence to forward the charges to a Monongalia County grand jury. The hearing is scheduled to start at 1:30.
