DINGESS, W.Va. – A West Virginia man is dead after allegedly threatening State Police troopers with a gun.

WSAZ Television was reporting Randy Matheny, 31, was shot Sunday night near his home in the East Fork 12 Pole Creek area of Lincoln County.  Troopers had gone to that home following a single vehicle accident, involving Matheny, earlier in the night near Dingess in Mingo County.

According to reports late Sunday night, Matheny fired a shot and fled that crash scene with a baby before troopers arrived.  Matheny’s wife was found at the crash scene and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

When troopers arrived at Matheny’s home, he allegedly pointed a gun at the officers.  He was shot and killed.

An investigation was underway on Monday morning.

Early reports indicated the baby was not hurt.

You NEVER point a firearm or threaten law enforcement with a knife or any foreign object, the result will usually be FATAL!!

Enough of the idiot remarks. Randy is a good man & will be deeply missed. That bull crap hillbilly trash down there took advantage of his kindness & only cared about what would he do for them next.. They had the nerve to call up here to the family they claimed he didn't have & talked as if nothing ever happened wondering how much they could get out of us. Well we know Randy is smiling down on us because he's away from those who made him miserable. Minutes before the accident he was talking about getting away from trash down there, well he gone & will be deeply missed. We love u so much bro and we'll meet again. Bring light to the US and make a big deal out of the white man being gunned down by police!!!!!

Apparently Randy wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed there John. You level a gun (or any weapon) at a Law Enforcement Officer; you have a death wish that has a very high probability of coming to fruition. The only “light” to be brought is the muzzle flash from the Troopers’ weapons ‘cause Randy was VERY DUMB and is now VERY DEAD.

If you are someone who fears being shot by the police, please Google Cris Rock How not to get your a** kicked by the police

Sharpton called. He could care less about the white guy that got shot. No publicity in it for him. Jesse's busy too. All the m0r0n's people are in Ferguson, MO polishing a halo and don't have time for a hillbilly.

    • vashti

seriously... how much less could he care Mr. Dumb? the phrase is could NOT care less. think about that one while you are trying to show off your less than obvious smarts.

Why is it that Europeans conquered Native Americans rather than Native Americans conquering Europeans? Figure that out and your sense of entitlement is as weak as your argument about our LEOs.

  • Raging Moderate

From the police report, which is all we have to go by, if you flee the scene with a baby and shoot at the police on the scene, then point a gun at the police when they come to your house, you will get shot, and justifiably so.

    • lisa burdman

He never shott at the police. Please get your facts Straight

  • Thinredline

I'm not a cop. I do support the police. If you point a gun at them you should be shot. If I have my gun and someone points one at me they will be shot.

    HARPERS FERRY-
    "Hands up! Don't shoot!"

    That's not even remotely funny!
Dr. Michael Bodin, who performed the autopsy stated that the there were four shots in the front of his forearm. It would appear that the RUMOR perpetrated by Al Sharpton, et al and the mobs that he had his hands up in a surrender position is erroneous.
But, if he charged or attacked the police officer, the hands-up mantra incites rioting & looting more than self-defense as claimed by eye witnesses.

    Hands up! Don't shoot!

    • Dumb Liberals

You loot, WE SHOOT! to kill.

    • Rev Roy

More racist crap from Harpers Ferry. Get on a boat and head back to where your ancestors came from if you don't like it here. Spewing hate and racist remarks doesn't do our society any good. We will get to harmony one day once every one like you is gone.

      • Harpers Ferry

My ancestors were Native Americans, and yes, we do hate white folks like you. If you don't like it, then go back to where YOUR ancestors came from!!!

The wonderful thing about the internet is that you can make any ludicrous claim you wish and there's no way to verify it.

Mine are over the big pond but this state is my home ! Stop complaining and be a true West Virginian ! If you don't like it LEAVE! Long story short . The dumb ass shot at cop and got shot ! Well deserved . Period !

    • FungoJoe

      Fed up! Don't Loot!!

  • Bill

I wonder if Al Sharpton and Eric Holder along with O'Bummer will show up and take charge.

  • hillbilly

Point a gun at a cop and that is exactly what you will get... its not rocket science. Try it sometime if you have a death wish.

  • Harpers Ferry

Is it just me or does every fatal shooting by the police in WV sound exactly the same? It's almost as if they have a template written up and just fill in some blanks and then send it the media.

    • Jonus Grumby

Idi0t points weapon at police. Police issue warning for idi0t to drop weapon. Idi0t refuses to do so. Police shoot said idi0t. Yep. Same template.

    • Martinsburg Resident

      Harpers Ferry,

You are obviously a Police hater... until you have walked in their shoes, quit condemning every police action reported in the media. As I've said before our Troopers do an outstanding job & do it because they want to make this state a safer place to raise a family. I appreciate them & ALL law enforcement. Are they perfect? Nope... but neither are we. Thank you WVSP troopers, you are all in my thoughts & prayers! Montani Semper Liberi

    • Support WVSP

Yes, because if you point a gun at a police officer he or she is absolutely justified to shoot. Would you rather they waited until he shot one of our troopers then returned fire? I sure wouldn't.

      • lisa burdman

Please shorter me prook that he pointed the fun asset the troopers/troopers. Oh yeah that's why the story changed 4 times Now because you can't get it straight. So what really happened?

        • lisa burdman

Please proved me proof that he pointed the gun at them

..."Is it just me or does every fatal shooting by the police in WV sound exactly the same?"

Yep, it's just you Harpers Ferry.
Everyone knows that if you point a gun at a law enforcement officer in WV, you are probably going to get shot and that's the way it should be too!
What are the officers' supposed to do, give the perpetrator a chance to kill them?
The problem in today's society is a lack of responsibility for one's own actions. There are consequences with these type of actions. Unfortunately, Mr. Matheny had to pay the ultimate price for his stupid actions.
And, if someone points a gun at me or any member of my family, I'll not waste any time trying to "talk them down", you can bet I'm going to take them out immediately and I'm not a cop!
When did law enforcement give up THEIR rights to protect themselves or fellow officers in the line of fire?
