Man dead after State Police shooting

DINGESS, W.Va. — A West Virginia man is dead after allegedly threatening State Police troopers with a gun.

WSAZ Television was reporting Randy Matheny, 31, was shot Sunday night near his home in the East Fork 12 Pole Creek area of Lincoln County.  Troopers had gone to that home following a single vehicle accident, involving Matheny, earlier in the night near Dingess in Mingo County.

According to reports late Sunday night, Matheny fired a shot and fled that crash scene with a baby before troopers arrived.  Matheny’s wife was found at the crash scene and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

When troopers arrived at Matheny’s home, he allegedly pointed a gun at the officers.  He was shot and killed.

An investigation was underway on Monday morning.

Early reports indicated the baby was not hurt.
