CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Kanawha County deputies have expanded the hunt for a missing teenager. Ericka Brown, 16, disappeared from her home in the Cross Lanes area on the night of Aug.10. She’s had no contact with her family or friends since that night.

“That’s why we think something has changed,” said Corporal Brian Humphreys with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department. “This was not a runaway where she planned to forsake all contact with friends and family. That’s not a realistic theory.”

Deputies have scoured phone conversations and surveillance video in an effort to find out her pattern in the days leading to her disappearance. They are attempting to find out who she sneaked out of her house to meet as her parents slept. The clues uncovered so far have taken deputies out of the Charleston area toward Parkersburg, Athens, Ohio, and Columbus, Ohio.

“Investigators are a little hesitant to release exactly why they believe she was headed that direction the night she went missing,” said Humphreys. “There are some indicators that’s one place we might be looking and we want to get her picture out there in those areas.”

Brown is 5′-1″, 100 pounds and has long, sandy blonde hair.  Authorities are unsure what she was wearing the night she left.  They’re asking anyone who may have knowledge of Brown’s whereabouts to give them a call at 304-357-0169.

When I read the "sneaked out of the house while her parents slept" phrase in the story, I am reminded of Skylar Neese. She slipped out of the house with "friends" and her "friends" stabbed her to death and left her body in a shallow grave.

Our children are out of control and we have no one else to blame but ourselves. We've allowed a nanny state to tell us how to raise them and a nanny state that limits discipline to "time outs" without any real consequences for bad behavior - until it is too late, of course and we're checking out child into the prison system.

      Yes, exactly!

Sounds a little too complex to assume anything. What if she left willingly but hasn't returned or made contact because of whatever situation she could've been lured into? I so hope and pray she is safe, whatever the STORY!?

If the investigators are a "little hesitant" to release information, then its still a runaway throwing a temper tantrum. Where's the "Amber Alert"? They apparently don't suspect she's in danger or they would have filed one without hesitation. You need to learn to read between the well chosen words the deputies are using in their press releases.

Yawn. This has ZERO news associated with it. Non-story.

      Unless it were your child!

If it were mine, I just change the door locks and phone number. They'd be on their own. No questions asked.

Whatever, the point of my comment is that I hope and pray she's safe. Given your mention of Amber Alert, that would make her a child. I realize teens are out of control, this may be without foul play, in fact that's what I hope for. I'm not a tree-hugging, bleeding heart liberal either, and loathe the way teens behave due to lack of discipline. So, don't even go there with me. You get your kicks on here being cynical very often, many times you are also proven wrong once news is released.
