NEW RICHMOND, W.Va. — Class AA No. 8 Mingo Central defeated No. 10 Wyoming East 37-28 in week one of the high school football season.

Mingo Central put up 479 yards of total offense, while holding Wyoming East to just 188 yards of offense. The Miners were led by quarterback Stephen Hammond who rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

Senior running back Chase Justice rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries, while sophomore running back Joe Hunt added 117 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in the win.
