MORGANTOWN, W.Va.After going 8-for-8 against the spread on the Chick-fil-A game, the MetroNews panel ain’t talking moral victories—we’re talking about bankrupting Bovada!

The panel also was perfect in taking Wisconsin to cover against LSU, and we went 7-1 on Miami (Ohio) hanging within 24 of Marshall. That bit of Penn State luck in Ireland saved a 6-2 finish, but Ohio State’s late score against the Middies buried all but two of the pickers.

But enough about the past. We hear teams make their biggest improvements from Week 1 to Week 2 and we’re ready to roll with the cliches. We even dug up some unofficial lines on West Virginia and Marshall’s game against FCS opponents, you know, to keep things interesting:

Look like Hunter started the season at the same place he ended last years---in the basement. Maybe he would do better if he would just flip a coin.

  • Ron-from Morgantown

In a perfect world Rhode Island would be playing Towson this week and WVU would be playing Marshall . But , as we know , the college football world isn't perfect .

    • TD

I don't understand the lovefest of a WVU-Marshall series, tried that and it didn't work out. Besides that it would be hard to call it a rivalry when everyone claims to be a fan of both teams. Ever been to Alabama? Ever been to Alabama during football season? Well they don't believe in this so called brotherly love that the people of West Virginia try to spread around between WVU and Marshall and I don't either. I only care about WVU period and yes I live in state, could care less about Marshall and quite frankly get tired of hearing about them on the WVU forum! With that said looking forward to watching a shalacking of Towson, no mercy Mountaineers pour it on and move on!

      • Aaron

Other than your Marshall like hatred for the opposition, can you come up with a reasonable logical argument for playing teams like Towson and William and Mary instead of Marshall?

        • TD

I don't think we should play any of those schools, if you want to be the best you have to beat the best. I would rather our non conference schedule be nasty year after year, my preferred schedule would be our conference schedule plus one SEC team, one Big 10 team and one ACC team each year. By the way we are only one game away from that this year. With this current schedule there is no difference between playing Towson or Marshall neither one adds anything to our strength of schedule, the difference is Towson take there loss and move on expecting nothing in return while Marshall for some reason thinks it deserves an even home and home series while they have done nothing to justify their wants. All in all it is just better for WVU to wash their hands of the series and move on the game adds absolutely nothing to WVU, the only ones who benefit are the wushu washy fans who claim to cheer for both. It's time folks, I'm telling you it's time, just let it go.

          • Aaron

That's all well and good, although I'm not sure what a wvuhu washy fan is but the reality is, WVU does play at least one down game each year. As such, I would prefer to see it be someone Marshall as another CUSA school, a MAC school or any of the other sub-power conference schools.

As to the notion that Marshall adds no more than Towson, that is simply ludicrous. Regardless of their schedule this year, they are a FBS school, not a FCS school as Towson.

I have encountered fans who think like you and in almost every case, the argument that Marshall adds nothing to the schedule is generally smoke for the true reasons they do not want to play Marshall; first and foremost, they fear a loss and they cannot stand that by playing Marshall, they somehow give that institution credibility.

Both are how many schools including Penn State view WVU.

    • Aaron

I agree Ron, I would love to see Marshall visiting Mountaineer Field this weekend as well. With 12 games, there is no reason for it to not happen. If only the boys down in Huntington would stop the silly demand for a 1-1 series, they would be playing every year.

For all their talk, truth be told they really want no part of WVU as the 1 win that would come about sometime in the 2020's isn't worth the 30 of so butt whippings they would endure every year.

Even so, I would like to see the game every year as part of an out of conference schedule that includes Maryland and Pitt as well.

    • squad

yeah we just gotta see marshall vs. wvu over and over every year..

you know a lot of us..i mean a LOT (MOST) of us don't care if they ever play Marshall again. its makes no difference. Good luck to Marshall but I don't live near or around Huntington so the game is absolutely (I kid you not) the same as if we played Miami or OU every year. No one cares on our side.

      • Diaspora

I would say that the days are coming to an end when we will be playing the likes of Towson, William and Mary, Liberty, Norfolk St etc...

Maybe, the low-level games will be against FBS, non "Power 5" schools such as those in the MAC and C-USA. I really hope there is enough said and done that we don't need to include Marshall in that mix. I wouldn't be surprised though, if a bowl scenario came about, perhaps as early as this season, at an eastern or southeastern bowl venue, where it would make good sense for the organizers to see pitting WVU vs MU as making good financial sense. If WVU, in this scenario, would be faced with the option of accepting or declining the bowl invitation with no alternate invitations, then this game will happen. MU will accept, regardless of the circumstances.

The control of allowing another WVU - Marshall game is totally in WVU's hands.

  • Money Manziel

One Ohio State note; they were far from impressice against Navy, they werent overlooking Navy, Ohio State's defense was bullied in the run game by Navy, If VA Tech has any establish runnjng attack itl be very difficult for OSU to keep up on O. OSU's below average D has nothing to do with Braxton Miller being out either!! If Navys QB doesnt make about 3 bad reads and give ohio state a scoop n score, and another one or 2 given to them on the ground Navy would be easily 1-0. Backup QB lokks very iffy for Bucks.

  • Money Manziel

WVU wins by at least 40, Michigan beats Notre Dame by double digits, Texas will win over byu, and Pitt is at least a 2 if not 3 TD favorite over BC. Towson is in a big time rebuilding year, the last time this Towson HC came to motown the 3-3-5 wasnt kind to his schemes, Towson struggles start to finish, this is a polishing game for WVU heading into Maryland. Alabama game was not a fluke by any stretch of the imagination. I see WVU winning 8 or 9 reg season games , possibly 10, if they continue to do what theyre doing, if they improve along the way even more than their current rate of progression theyll come away with a 10 win reg season. Quite respectable in a conference tougher than the (yes tougher than) the ACC and the Big 10.

  • any major dude

I bet the Towson fans don't like the 28 1/2 point spread. They're just not line backers.

I hear that fast food workers want a raise of the minimum wage to $15 per hour. My question is will Alan also demand more money or look to change careers.
