CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Dozens of residents on Charleston’s West Side found themselves helplessly watching water fill their basements Saturday afternoon when a strong storm camped over the area.
The heavy rain, which came at about 4 p.m., also flooded streets and parking lots along with underpasses.
Kanawha County Metro 911 reported two dozen calls about high water and Charleston firefighters responded to about a dozen water rescues.
The National Weather Service issued several flash flood warnings for various parts of Kanawha County and severe thunderstorm warnings for several central counties.
For the second time in less than a month Huntington got another dose of street flooding. The heavy rain initially pushed back the start of the Marshall-Rhode Island back a half-hour.
