CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Highland Hospital has teamed up with the University of Charleston to create a new type of health care facility. The partners cut the ribbon Tuesday on Advance Healthcare @UC.
Highland spokesman Jim Strawn said the center will offer comprehensive health services.
“Primary care, behavior health treatment and pharmacy services not only to the students at the University of Charleston and to their staff, it’s also for community members as well,” explained Strawn.
The plan for the center came together last year when the pharmacy school at UC began looking for a new partner. Strawn said Highland was a perfect fit. Not only will the community benefit by having somewhere to go for primary care but the students at UC will get hands-on experience.
“Both undergraduate and graduate students will be have to have field observations and internships and really learn the ins and outs of the medical business model of things,” according to Strawn.
The center is located at the UC School of Pharmacy and will be a go-to health facility for non-life threatening treatment.
“If you want to get a shot for the flu or if you want to get a physical for work or your school athletic team. If you need counseling, we’re offering behavior health treatment.” Strawn stressed you can also get prescriptions filled.
The partnership is a win-win according to Strawn.
