Nicholas man indicted in wife’s 2007 death

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. — State Police in Nicholas County say they’ve cracked a cold case.

Troopers arrested Paul Spinks, 43, of Birch River, after he was indicted this week on charges that he murdered his wife on Oct. 31, 2007.

Investigators said Elizabeth Spinks was found dead on the front porch of the couple’s home. She had been shot to death. Paul Spinks said at the time an unknown man shot and killed her.

State Police said new information surfaced recently that allowed them to gain an indictment in the case.

Spinks was taken into custody Tuesday without incident.
