Fire death in Wood County

ROCKPORT, W.Va. — Wood County woman is dead after her home went up in flames Monday afternoon.

Firefighters said the victim, Lois Jean Ayers, 65, was found inside her burned out house on South Sugar Camp Road near Rockport.

Ayers apparently called 911 to report the blaze, but by the time firefighters arrived on the scene the residence was engulfed in flames. Investigators said she had mobility issues.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the blaze but the fire is not considered suspicious.

There was heavy damage and no working smoke detector.
