Arrests made in dump truck crime spree

BRECKSVILLE, OH — The two men wanted for a crime spree earlier this week in Kanawha County were arrested Tuesday night in a suburb of Cleveland and are now facing a range of charges.

Justin Baldwin, 22, of Sissonville, and Dillon Young, 21, formerly of Jackson County and now a resident of the Cleveland area, were arrested during a routine traffic stop in Brecksville, Ohio. The pair is facing charges for a break-in Sunday at Jimmy Dunn Excavating and the robbery of the Sissonville 7-Eleven.

“There are seven felonies all together leveled against them,” said Corporal Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department. “Those felonies are grand larceny, several counts of breaking and entering and arson for burning the dump truck after it was stolen.

The two allegedly stole beer and cigarettes from the 7-Eleven and fled the scene in the dump truck which had been stolen from Dunn Excavating a day earlier and was burned in a field off Allen’s Fork Road later Monday morning. The pair also allegedly took tools valued at more than $40,000 and thousands of dollars in new copper wire from the company. Humphreys said additional stolen property was recovered in Jackson County and the two had stolen property in their vehicle when they were stopped in Ohio.

“They were pulled over on what would be a routine traffic stop for traffic violations,” said Humphreys. “That led to more traffic charges, but it lead to a search of the vehicle and recovery of stolen property.”

The pair was in a vehicle which had a stolen tag and was missing the front tag which is required in Ohio. Police pulled them over when the tag was noticed registered to a different model vehicle. They also had no registration or insurance paperwork for the car. Humphreys said officers had recovered items in the car stolen in several states.

Dillon and Young are lodged in an Ohio jail awaiting extradition back to West Virginia.
