Clay-Battelle’s Carrico named AARP Scholar Athlete of the Week

Cee-Bees’ two-sport athlete, active community volunteer, earns statewide honor.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Ethan Carrico of Clay-Battelle High School has been selected as the AARP West Virginia/MetroNews Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of September 21.

A senior, Ethan is a 3.4 GPA honor roll student. At Clay-Battelle, he is involved in many school clubs and activities including the Rotary Interact and LEO Clubs, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, RAZE, FFA, SADD, Drama Club and Ski Club. He was selected as a delegate to Mountaineer Boys State, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Academy and the 2014 Congress of Future Medical Leaders. He is the son of Hugh and Tammy Carrico of Maidsville.

A four-year offensive lineman and linebacker with Coach Ryan Wilson’s Cee-Bees, Ethan has been a member of three WVSSAC Class ‘A football playoff teams. He is also a two-year member of the Cee-Bees track team, specializing in field events.

On a community level, Ethan is actively engaged in volunteer and service activities in Monongalia County. He has served as a volunteer with West Virginia University Hospitals, Clay-Battelle Area Family Services Center, Relay For Life, American Red Cross and the Light for the Lost organization.

After graduation, Ethan plans to earn a nursing degree and pursue a career in the medical field.

During the 2014 fall sports season, one high school student athlete will be selected each week as the AARP West Virginia Scholar Athlete of the Week and recognized on the popular West Virginia MetroNews High School GameNight program, which airs 9:30 p.m. – midnight each Friday night on nearly 40 radio stations across the Mountain State.

West Virginia student athletes in Grades 11 and 12 with a minimum 3.0 grade point average are eligible for the award. Nominees should excel in one or more athletic program, and be active within their community through service and community involvement.
