Two workers still recovering after accident at Marshall County plant

MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. — Two people were still recovering Sunday at the West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. following a Friday accident at Axiall Corporation’s Natrium Plant, located just north of New Martinsville on Route 2.

According to company officials, the two were among the four people burned while handling some kind of caustic soda solution during a maintenance operation. The other two workers were treated and released on Friday.

The details of the industrial accident were the focus of an investigation this weekend.

Axiall officials called the incident an “unfortunate accident” and promised to identify ways to prevent such accidents in the future.

The injured workers were not being publicly identified on Sunday.

Axiall is based in Atlanta, Ga.
