Suspect identified in Kanawha school theft

EAST BANK, W.Va. — Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies have identified a suspect in the Monday morning theft of computer equipment and other items from East Bank Middle School.

The department announced Monday night the 18-year-old was identified from the surveillance photo and would be formally charged Tuesday. The items taken totaled more than $2,000.

Deputies said the man, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, entered the school through roof vent in the school’s kitchen.

Investigators said he took computer equipment and some clothing items the school was collecting for needy families.
