Four people killed in weekend accidents

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Four people were killed in separate accidents over the weekend in West Virginia. Two of the deadly accidents involved ATVs.

Sheriff’s deputies in Mercer County reported a deadly accident near the community of McComas Friday evening. A woman operating an ATV lost control of the machine and plunged over a 140-foot embankment.

State police in Putnam County responded to a deadly ATV crash Friday night along Grandview Ridge Road near Red House. The victim was identified as David Workman of Putnam County.

A Wood County woman was killed Saturday night in a collision along U.S. Route 50. Sheriff’s deputies said Bessie “Louise” Bennett of Waverly pulled out in front of an oncoming vehicle near Mountwood Park. Investigators said sun may have been a factor. The driver of the other vehicle will not be charged.

State police on the West Virginia Turnpike said a deer darted in front of a motorcyclist Saturday night near the Mossy exit. The driver lost control of the bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while his wife was hospitalized.
