UPDATE: St. Marys Coach Jodi Mote hospitalized; Venderlic named acting coach

ST. MARYS, W.Va.– St. Marys football coach Jodi Mote is recovering after suffering a mild stroke Tuesday.

Mote was taken to the hospital Tuesday after becoming confused and having trouble communicating. Doctors determined he had suffered a minor stroke but that it was not life threatening. Mote is currently at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.

Wednesday afternoon, longtime assistant coach Denny Venderlic was named the acting head coach in Mote’s absence.

Mote, a St. Marys High alum, is in his 13th season as Blue Devils’ head coach and had compiled a 95-45 record. He’s led St. Marys to the Class A playoffs seven times, reaching the semifinals three times.

The top-ranked Blue Devils take on their rival, No. 3 Williamstown Friday night.
