One dead in Mercer County ambulance wreck

PRINCETON, W.Va. — A woman being taken to a doctor’s appointment in a transport van died Monday in a traffic accident near Princeton.

Police said the crash occurred Monday afternoon on state Route 20 in Princeton when the driver of a car attempted to make a u-turn to get out of traffic. Vehicles were backed up because of another accident.

Sheriff’s deputies said the car and the transport van collided. The emergency vehicle rolled, ending up in a gravel parking lot. Mercer County resident Gladys Tipton, 71, was inside the ambulance heading to a doctor’s appointment. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Last month a person died in Marion County in an accident involving a ambulance that was hit by am SUV and flipped into a culvert killing the patient.
