Fake Boone County mine foreman to be sentenced in December

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Boone County man who lied on required mine safety reports faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he’s sentenced on a federal charge of falsifying those mandatory documents in December.

Shawn Glenn Stover, 29, of Whitesville, plead guilty to the charge in U.S. District Court in Charleston on Wednesday.

In 2013, Stover acted as a foreman at Newtown Mining Company’s Peerless Rachel Mine in Boone County when he was not certified to be one. In that role, he signed pre-shift and on-shift reports that indicated he had properly examined particular sections of the mine.

He used multiple foreman’s numbers that did not belong to him.

Stover’s sentencing date is scheduled for Dec. 12.
