Wheeling Park educator named teacher of the year

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Wheeling Park High School English teacher Gail Adams is the 2015 West Virginia Teacher of the Year.

Wheeling Park High School teacher Gail Adams, center, was named state Teacher of the Year Wednesday night.

The announcement was made Wednesday night during a ceremony in Charleston by state School Superintendent Michael Martirano.

Adams has been a teacher for 10 years. The state Department of Education says she “advocates for parent involvement and believes in educating the whole family. Though many of her students have become doctors, lawyers, and teachers, her greatest joy comes from seeing her students become happy and productive in whatever field they choose.”

The state Teacher of the Year receives a $15,000 educational technology package, cash awards from Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Horace Mann Insurance and the use of a Toyota car for a year.
