Man charged in McDowell County shooting

PANTHER, W.Va. — A McDowell County man is charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting and wounding a man in Panther on Monday night.

State Police said the victim, age 25, was recovering at Welch Community Hospital on Tuesday after being shot multiple times.

Joe Blankenship, 38, hometown unknown, was facing charges of attempted murder and malicious wounding.

Troopers said Blankenship’s brother had been fighting with the victim earlier in the evening.

The investigation continued on Tuesday afternoon.
