Detroit man sentenced for bringing backpack of heroin to West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –– A Detroit, Michigan man will spend six months in prison followed by three years on supervised release for carrying heroin from Detroit to Charleston on a Greyhound bus.

Darnez Turner, 26, was en route to deliver the heroin in July 2011 when an off-duty Charleston police officer who was working security at the Greyhound bus station in the Capital City stopped him and found the heroin in Turner’s backpack.

At that time, the officer said Turner admitted he was transporting the heroin for cash on delivery.

Earlier this year, he plead guilty to the crime.

Turner was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Charleston on Thursday.
